Geoff has two guinea pigs, three fish, a cat and a rabbit

Geoff's Story

Born profoundly deaf, Geoff, now 69, spent most of his early adulthood in Cranage Hall – a long-stay hospital in Holmes Chapel.

When he left Cranage in the 1960s, aged 26, Geoff had severe learning difficulties and was unable to talk or communicate with the world around him.

Geoff has been with the Trust since the early 1980s and despite the harsh realities of his earlier life, he has developed amazing communication skills over the years and is now able to lip read and talk.

Initially in shared housing, Geoff successfully moved into his own flat 12 years ago and is now a well-established member of his community. Receiving between three and five hours of support each day, the Trust assists Geoff with his shopping, finances, social outings and keeping in touch with his family.

As a valued member of the Christian Concern Centre in Crewe, Geoff attends a weekly computer course to further improve his communication skills. Geoff also enjoys fishing, walking and is a keen animal lover with two guinea pigs, three fish, a cat and a rabbit.
