Amanda loves walking, eating out and visiting the Purple Onion

Amanda's story

32 year-old Amanda has been with us for over 12 years. During this time, Amanda, who is autistic and non-verbal, has lived in a shared residential house.

Now, thanks to the support, encouragement and understanding of the team that works with
Amanda, she has moved into her own home.

Before coming to us, Amanda was moved around from one care home to another. Inevitably this instability created a great deal of anxiety and frustration for Amanda. Whilst for some providers this
translated into what they called 'challenging behaviour', we could see that the environment Amanda had lived in was the source of her anxiety.

By creating a supportive environment and developing an action plan that has enabled us to understand and communicate with Amanda, she now lives a much calmer, happier and fulfilling life.

Amanda is supported 24 hours a day in her new home and also has the support of our Daily Options team seven days a week.

Amanda loves walking, eating out, visiting our Purple Onion drop-in facility and has just started attending the local disco.
